The chemical composition of marcasite is identical to pyrite; these two minerals are distinguished by their respective crystalline formations. Marcasite occurs in the form of masses, stalactites, fibers, and as tabular and pyramid-like crystals. The colour is bronze-yellow, which may become a deeper yellow upon exposure to light.

Marcasite provides one with the view on oneself from an outside perspective and can produce insight with respect to the methods available for painlessly correcting the qualities which are unwanted; this is occasionally in opposition to the way one consciously appraises the self. It helps one to make these corrections easily, and provides for periodic reminders of any uncorrected and unwanted personal traits It also shows one how one may appear dull to others and encourages one to “shine”

It further stimulates and illumines the sense and the intellect, softening ones expressiveness and dispelling both the use of rash words and the actions of impatience.

Marcasite represents spiritual development, providing for prosperity by eliminating starvation of the spirit.

It can be used in the treatment of skin disorders, moles, warts, freckles, etc.; placing the stone on the affected area or use of an elixir taken internally or applied topically tends to provide the action.
